This week started out very good for little Travis. They took him off the ventilator on Sunday night. He adapted well to the SiPAP. I was able to hold for a few minutes on Sunday because there was an issue with his incubator so they needed to replace the one he was in. So during the switch I was able to hold him- it was a very special to be able to hold him for the first time!
He lasted for about 28 hours off of the ventilator. Last night he just got very tired and he couldn't breathe on his own anymore. They decided to reintubate him so he is back to that now. He also had a bit of a higher temperature this morning so they are concerned about an infection brewing. As a preventative they have put him on two antibiotics to fight it. They found the symptoms early so they are in the process of figuring out what is going on. We could see today that he wasn't feeling too great, he wasn't as active as he usually is. They had to do a number of tests this mornings so it just a combination of being tired and not feeling good. He is still tolerating his milk so they are continuing with that.
The staff have been very reassuring to us. We have heard from a lot of people who have been down this road that it is two steps ahead and then one step back. It is difficult to get the news though. We ask you to pray that the antibiotics will stop anything from brewing and that he will get better soon!
